Teach students how to get ready for a conference:
Book pages marked for skill assessment
Fluency check from those marked pages
Comprehension check from those marked pages

Journal opened to last page where teacher initials are found

Conference goal sheet ready to record on

Teacher goal/assessment sheet ready
Student reads requested pages
Teacher asks questions about what was read
(Comprehension, reading strategies, literary terms, etc.)
Teacher records information about student fluency and comprehension
Teacher checks journal for assignment completion and correctness
Teacher discusses journal work with student
Teacher determines if flexible needs group is needed for student
New goals developed and recorded both by teacher and student
Teacher records additional assessment information on teacher assessment sheet
Student returns to seat and begins new work
If necessary, teacher helps student choose new book
